Swaziland is predominantly a patriarchal society. Beyond Inequalities: Women in Swaziland comes at a time when major economic and political initiatives are being pursued and these have a bearing on the lives of the populace. However, although these initiatives are being pursued, progress towards gender equality remains slow. Land, for example, is the major means of production yet women in Swaziland have limited access to land and this is due to the patriarchal system. Swazi Nation Land is only accessible to men. The profile also gives the status of women in politics and decision-making, health, education among others.
