This publication is the first issue of the SADC Gender Monitor co-published by SARDC-WIDSAA and the SADC Gender Unit. The SADC Gender Monitor 1999 tracks progress on the implementation of commitments that emerged from the Fourth World Women Conference in Beijing in 1995 and the SADC Declaration on Gender and Development. This issue outlines progress made by SADC Member States in implementing the global critical areas of concern that emerged from the Beijing conference and the regional critical areas of concern that emerged from the SADC Declaration on Gender and Development.
